Wild Moon Lens, Self Portrait

Hi, I'm Jess.

The Storyteller behind

Wild Moon Lens

Childhood for me was growing up a little wild with muddy feet, bushland adventures in North Queensland. I spent my days camping by the river with my grandfather, running amuck down the back creek during storm season and hunting for snakes and lizards like I was trying to be Steve Irwin. Looking back, I think those days are where my love of nature, adventure and stories began.

Like a true millennial, I also carried a little digital camera everywhere I went. Family gatherings, nights at the pub, holidays and ordinary days, I was always taking photographs. I didn't know then that photography would become such a big part of my life, I just knew I wanted to remember things.

These days, I'm a photographer, a reader, a writer, a lover of nature and a mum to my beautiful son. We love travelling, getting outside and finding new places to explore together. Motherhood has changed the way I see photographs. Watching my son grow has made me realise just how quickly these seasons of life pass. It's made me want to hold onto the feeling of them, the laughter, the chaos, the cuddles and the way he looks at the world as he discovers it for the first time.

My love of reading and writing has naturally found its way into my photography too. I love stories, complex characters and the emotions that make them memorable. I think people are much the same, and that's what I love capturing, the way you naturally love, laugh, play and exist together.

I don't want to photograph families who simply smile at the camera. I want to photograph families who trust me to capture them as they are. I'll probably get muddy with you, climb where I need to climb and stay a little longer if the light is worth it.I hope when you look back at your photographs years from now, you don't just remember what you looked like. I hope you remember what it felt like to be there, together.

That's the kind of story I want to capture for you.
